Cruising past the San Juan Islands
Posted on August 17, 2009 by MichaelMy ship winds its way past the San Juan Islands, north of Seattle, as we head towards Alaska. Stuart Island, USA is the northern-most and last island we pass. We turn northeasterly, towards Canada’s Inside Passage. This point is aptly named, Turn Point with Turn Point Lighthouse. I’ve sketched these islands often, and decided to add some color to this one. They are quite picturesque islands, even on gloomy days such as this.
Leaving Seattle
Posted on August 17, 2009 by MichaelThe Infinity is pulling away from Seattle to begin another 7-day cruise in Canada-Alaska waters. I painted this view of the Space Needle from a photo as I was working at the time and only had a chance for a fleeting glimpse.
Juneau Coffee
Posted on August 5, 2009 by MichaelGot out earlier today and went to Paradise Bakery and Cafe for coffee and pastry. All homemade here. My recommendation: Try everything. (paradisecafeyeehaw.com)
The drawing below is a view out the window next to my table. I drew the sketch while having my coffee and multi-berry scone, but I did not have any water on me, and I didn’t want to bother with a glass from the cafe, so I took a photo for the colors, and applied the watercolor later when I got back to my cabin on the ship.
