In my studio – Endangered Species

In my studio – Endangered Species

I have returned to a theme I love, wild animals. I created a successful series of endangered birds while I was in graduate school in Connecticut. I live in Oregon, now, so my first few paintings will be endangered birds in Oregon. You can see them in my artwork pages.

The first two I chose are the Marbled Murrelet and the Western Snowy Plover. I incorporate printed information about the animals into my paintings; their habits, habitat, and so on. That’s what’s in the photo, along with a drawing of a Marbled murrelet in my sketchbook.

Today’s Studio Photo – Entire painting without color

Today’s Studio Photo – Entire painting without color

A minimal palette today. I painted with a mixture of blue and brown. It makes my favorite black. I used it, and that tiny brush, for the whole 3×4 foot painting! But I was just making the beginning drawing on my new painting. 🙂 There will be four figures, not including the people in the backgraound. No photo of the painting yet.

November 12th – mark your calendar

Sunday, October 30th was the final day of the Hillsboro Farmers Market – It was a wet one, as you can see by the photo of my booth. Rain is expected this time of year in Oregon and it did not deter the market-goers. It was the day before Halloween so I put out Foxy in a pumpkin. As usual, she was a hit with the kids.

So what’s next?

I plan on sending greeting cards of my travel watercolors to everyone who supported my art-making this past year, but I need your help. I will send an email on November 12th. If you do not receive one from me, then I do not have your email. So, I would like you to JOIN my email list. Thank you!

I’m back in the studio. That means more abstract flower paintings. I might even branch out beyond poppies and daisies. I am also restarting an old practice; figure painting. I love painting people, I’ve been away from it for too long.

Market Fun, Flowers, and Oktoberfest!

I had a great time at the markets, once again. I took Foxy to the Sunday market in Hillsboro. She was a hit and met children who also had little foxes. I sold one of my favorite watercolors – it’s a scene of Decision Point Lighthouse in Alaska. My flower paintings also continue to go to nice homes. I must paint more of them!

Oktoberfest – It’s that time of year again. I’m not in Germany this year so I’m going to the one in Mt. Angel Oregon (www.oktoberfest.org). I’ll send a photo!

Fine Art at the local Farmers Market – and Foxy Iced Tea

It was another warm day at the Farmers Market in my little town of Scappoose, OR. The good part about this market is that it is small in a small town. I meet my neighbors. It’s a fun hard day of work. I seem to be the last person to leave every day – I have lots of bits and pieces to pack up. Thankfully, Foxy had a cold glass of iced tea ready when I got home. With lemon even!
